A Wholy Incomplete Project

This does seem to be the story of my life these days.  Day late, dollar short.  Today's the reveal for Kristi Bowman's Big Hole Hop and I'm still very much in process with my piece.

The paisley designs in Kristi's focal inspired me to try making my own paisleys.  I started with my basic snowflakes & stars, then working the paisley shape around them.

I currently plan to have five paisleys in my final design.  So far I've managed to stitch up four.

Also played with a lot of ideas about how to work the copper focal into the piece.  I wanted to use it as the closure, but its hole is just a little too small to fit a toggle through.

I finally hit on using it as the button rather than the loop!  If I use one of my flower stars to fill the hole, Kristi's focal suddenly becomes a button.  Perfect!

I've started working on the background; planning to fill it in with random right angle weave with my dark blue bead mix.  going to sprinkle some stars through the background.  And the focal will sit on top like a full, round moon.

That's the theory anyways.

So, another work in progress - guess that gives me another blog post a little later.   The good and the bad.  Hopefully the process is interesting!

And in the meantime, check out all of finished pieces by the other participants in Kristi's hop:

Paisley laid out onto my design mockup - lots of stitching to go!

  2. Hi,Karen:-)
    It's going to be fantastic:-)
All those rusty colors-the perfect match-the shot in 'ten':-)
And additionally-that fine freeform of the piece-it will be really wonderful.I can hardly wait for the final effect.

  4. I think this looks really nice already! Can't wait to see the finished product. I like how you are "echoing" the paisly design from the focal into the other parts of the piece.

  5. I love it! Love how you actually beaded the paisley! So beautiful! I love the seed beads and how they feed off of the colors in the original component. It's more texture on top of the texture. Can't wait to see it finished, but I know that all of those seed beads take a lot of work. --Diane

  6. That's amazing. I don't know how you can do that and not rip all your hair out and run down the street naked insane. Looks awesome so far. I def want to see the finished piece.

  8. Oh I just love the paisley donut you received! I have been admiring that pattern since Kristi made them as cones!

It is so creative that you made seed beaded paisleys to match! How very clever! You ventured down a very labor intensive path! I can't wait to see the design completed! Looks amazing so far!

  14. Thank you all for your kind words regarding my latest work in progress. PyxeeStyx, I can honestly say that I did not plan it just to grab new readers. :)

I knew I'd only have a day, day and a half to stitch. So I kept telling myself I was going to make a choker. I knew I could complete a choker in the time I had. But I didn't want to make a choker. So I compromised, and decided to work on the component parts - paisleys and stars and worry about final form later. And somewhere along the way, it definitively morphed from choker to incipient capelet, much to the amusement of my husband and local friends. :)
